He sat on a fallen trunk among his fellow inmates
Not minding the termites that burrowed beneath his short
Nor the sun that drummed on his naked skull
Tattered and dirty
His mind was far away
Wandering through the ruins of his past
The ignorance of his childhood
The struggles of his growing years
How on that sad day
He stood in the cubicle
In front of a defiled jury
He remembered the sympathetic silence
That engulfed the room when the judge pronounced
“life imprisonment with hard labour”
He knows, the judge knows
And everybody knows
That he didn't kill the girl
The son of the rich man did
He knows and everybody knows
That for twenty years
He had suffered for another man's sin
But who is a poor defeated fellow
In the presence of the Highs and Mighties
He wiped the tears in his eyes
With the back of his wrinkled hands
Took his hoe and got back to work
He knows and everybody knows
That this is injustice
And it is sad that no one is talking about it

People gathered before the broken door of the little store
There was a theft last night
And all the poor woman depended on is gone
She stood blank and empty of life
Her kids are small and hungry
Her husband is lost to the city girls
Her rent has long expired
Now are shop has been looted too
Her only hope smashed
Her world is crumbling
A serious looking policeman
Investigates the crime scene
Everyone hailed his dogged commitment
But who will belief
That this same sergeant is the thief that came last night
That the station they went to report the case
Is the hideout of notorious hoodlums
That some demons are disguised angels
That the man they all run to in times of trouble
Is the trouble they are all running from
Who will belief if this truth is revealed
Who?

*SHE SAID NO!*
She said NO!
But she didn't know
That too many nights had whistled by
With my thoughts awake beneath the starless sky
Making a thousand wishes with my fingers
Dreaming of the days we shall become lovers
I'd whispered to the ears of every friend
That my search for true love now has an end
She said No
How can it be so?
Yes how can it be?
With all the things she's said to me
We've talked and laughed as one
A surety of her golden heart already won
But she said No
And she didn't even know
That I wish that word was never spoken
It has left me really broken
But it's alright
Poetry should make it right
I will fight back these tears today
And then walk away

Who are these things
Unnoticed in their condemned rags?
They are from the other side
The dark and twisted side of life
In search of meaning
On a path flowered with embers of tragic wars
They are the carriers of the aching of our failures
Sufferers of dark history
They will soon pass not into oblivion
Not into the eternal silence of the grave
Slaves are they here,
Kings will they be there
Their infant cradles were ridges of trash
And their graves unmarked forever
But their name will resound among angels
They lived without living
They died without dying

(Dedicated to all victims of circumstances)
She stopped frequenting the stream of her youth
On market days
Her space was vacant among women
At noon, she took cover from hot sun
An imbecile spirit might be lurking the street
Her protruding belly is her burden to bear alone
Alani, her husband
Kept boasting to drunk friends
“My son is on his way into this world”
One night the sky roared with rain
She laid on a mat
Gasping between life and death
Blood flooded, tears flowed
Anguishing pain pounded her
Then with one faint sigh
A healthy child was born
No one touched the little thing
Disappointment shone on all expecting faces
When Alani asked what sex it was
"A girl again" came the answer
He hurried out of the room angry and brokenhearted
The exhausted mother pulled her untended baby closer
Both unwashed in maternity blood
She whispered without much strength
"Live my child, live well"
Dropping her baby in silence
She pull back her head towards the mat
And breath her last

*I will Pretend to be a Novice of Love*
I sit on my rug of smiles
Mesmerized by the over-flogged tales of love
Told by jobless boys on hungry street
“The reason why I live is you
You mean more than this world to me
Bla bla bla
“I will burn in hell for you
I will drown in the sea if you want
I will hunt you down to the end of the earth
Bla bla bla
“Let me carry all your burdens
Let me live or die for you
Let me run through the earth for you
Bla bla bla”
You've spoken with renewed vigour
The same old lies of those who came before
You are nothing but another hungry beast
Seeking out a prey in me
I will sit still
On my rug of smiles
And pretend to be the novice you think I am

Those who ride in convoys of gold
Should be mindful of the women
Who kneel by those village potholes
They are clothed in rags
Famished to the bones
But they are not like Ani
The famous mad woman of Utaja
They wore hunger with pride
Neither cursing God
Nor blaming man
Their only crime is poverty
Those who live in fenced houses
With big dogs that speak English
Do not ignore
The threat of these poor things of the world
They slave their lives at your doors
That their children too may go to school
Children from those junks and shacks
Can find their ways to the palaces of plenty
While the wealthy ones haggle their fates in endless ruins?
It was God who blessed the ghetto
With many fatherless children
He might just turn the table round
The world is burdened with such mysteries
Do you not know?

A Poem About Sex Dolls
For too long I'd placed in humanity
Hopes for an era of sanity
Searching this world for love
I see our histories
Scribbled in pages of moral tragedies
I rose with the dawn
I rode on the back of a rising sun
Across the oceans
I saw lands with shores of gold
Our Babylon of science is above the skies
Full of flaws in its own mysteries
That girl cannot love me
She needs a lady like her
He cannot love her
To him, it's better with dogs, pigs or goats
The drum beats with just one rhythm
The universe is engulfed in a sudden fog
SEX DOLLS!!!
With sex dolls no dull sex
That's the latest gist in town
Stupidity has just gotten a new name
Madness has just changed garment
Another idol has emerged from the hades
Men are now beastly in their thinking
Noble mind flared in darkness
I wish I can sing a song
That will change the world
But we are all in one hell
In this cell of furious flames
I can only shriek in hurtful groans
Wishing posterity will be left with a better legacy

Welcome to beast's town
The jungle of injustice
A land of beautiful destructions
The hell with the fiercest demons
Brother, squeeze that your gentle face
Be tough and frustrated or get killed
You've got to understand “how the thing goes”
“Skraaaa pa pa pa pa pa”
Be ready to stab any bitch at the back
This is the jungle of injustice
At the centre of this mighty metropolis
Stands a fading hills of hope
Just leave all that worry to the unborn
They will build the today will spoil tomorrow
Do not mind the frenzy dancers in the hall of flame
Nor the “togad” priests of holiness at burning brothels
Kings are floozy and their queens wenches
That is the way it is here
The land is full of milk and honey
For those who can drink
From the beaker of corruption
This is a land for you and for all
The home of all for none

*Love, Do Not Play Your Tricks With Me Again*
I'm not a piece on a chess board
Neither am I a yacht on troubled sea
So love
Do not play your tricks on me again
For too long in your old name
I'd given my heart to strangers
After brutal betrayals of many brothers
All I get back is still its broken pieces
I'd bargained even with my finest garment
All I have now is a wardrobe of a thousand rags
This night you robbed me of my sleep
That night, you stripped me of peace
For how long must I fall for the same old lie
All for the sake of love
I'm loosing my mind for her by the day
This damsel has a hold on me like no other
May be
Fresh tears are beginning to gather
Behind dark clouds of tomorrow
May be
Finally an angel is sent to my rescue
Every shattered hearts needs its mender
But all I've got to offer
Is its broken pieces
Will she see the gold in me
So love!
Please do not play your tricks with me this time

Alone With a Naked Girl
That lonely night
My studious head was bent before a reading lamp
When a faint noise from my door
Heralded a beautiful damsel in
Methought I saw a stark naked lady
But no, she was clothed with beckons of lust
The magical moment drown all my vows
I've sworn never to be a player again
On sacred alters
But who knows if this is just a prefect crime
Some temptations are not to be resisted
I pulled her close
Feeling her warm flesh in mine
And her breath hissing through my nostrils
My impulse doubled
This path I'm beginning to travel
May lead to heaven or hell
But that is a worry for another day
Her red lips must not go unkissed
*Pranpapan grangaga gban*
(Sound of falling plates)
A rude noise startled me
Alas
IT WAS JUST A DREAM
Rioting rats stumbled on my unwashed plates
I've learnt how to keep my food safe
They will pay for robbing me of my sleep again
What is this wetness I feel on my trouser?
Who is that girl I saw in my dream?
O, my crush!!!!
The next time I see her
I will pretend not to care no more
For what better choice has a country boy
Who loves a girl that needs those with billions in banks
One day when the wind of many seasons must have blown
I will go to bed
Thinking no more about her
Dreaming no more about her
With my happiness found intact with another

(Purely fictional)
In silence I heard a lonesome bird sing
“The world is a cruel place
A colony of monsters
A kingdom of beasts”
In the bliss of a sizzling hearth
I heard the elders say
“Once upon a time we lived in harmony
An army too strong for evil to conquer”
In the wilderness of life
My furrowed brow tells the sad tale of defeat
The sun that once dawned upon our homes
Had set beyond the river
Where is the beacon of truth
That once stood in the centre of existence?
Where are the men of war?
Where are the heroes of yester-victories?
That afore time stood in defence our brotherhood?
They are all beneath the murky fog
Clustered around the throne of Anarchy
In one accord they sing
"Long live our Lord and king"
Should I join in their frenzy dance of doom
Or stand alone against the roving world?

I knew you cannot be trusted
Yet I did anyway
I knew you are a player
I still gave you my heart
I knew you are skilled in lies
But I choose to believe all you ever said
All of me I placed at your mercy
I threw my love in your arms with abandon
I knew everything about you is false
And even your smiles concealed the evil you are capable of
But one thing I don't know about you
Is that you are lost beyond redemption
Love is one thing I will to do better in my next life
For nothing can mend a heart already broken

THE PRETTY BEAST
.
I know you wield the beauty of flowers
And sweet scent of roses you emit.
Yes, you dwell in a city called love,
In a region we call emotion
... But please tell me, who are you?
.
Your eulogy has no end,
And your praises know no limits.
For your "ode" is someone else's "elegy".
Sometimes you bring tears, sometimes smiles
... But please tell me, who are you?
.
When will you visit me?
At my dusk or my dawn?
Today or tomorrow?
No need be, I beg of you
For my eyes are unworthy to behold your beauty
... But please tell me, who are you?
.
She replied me and said
I wield the Beauty of black roses
The madness in hearts of men I am
I wear prettiness, but a monster I am!
And tears is my signature!
For I am pain!
